Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruti president K. Kavitha demanded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy secure a firm assurance from Karnataka to reduce the Almatti project height. She warned that the project could turn South Telangana into a drought zone and therefore urged immediate action.
Kavitha urges Revanth Reddy to raise Almatti issue with Kharge
Posting on X, Kavitha called on the Chief Minister to use his Karnataka visit to protect Telangana’s water rights. “During your visit, request Kharge Garu to intervene and reduce the Almatti project height,” she wrote.
However, Kavitha accused Revanth Reddy of staying silent while the project posed a major threat to Telangana’s southern districts. “Both Telangana and Karnataka have Congress governments, and the party high command controls both. Why are you not speaking for Telangana?” she asked.
Moreover, she alleged that Revanth Reddy went to Bengaluru mainly for political discussions rather than addressing Telangana’s concerns. “Meet Kharge Garu and finalise the Almatti height issue there. Return only with a concrete assurance,” she demanded.
Kavitha questions Congress leadership over Telangana’s water rights
Meanwhile, Kavitha said the Chief Minister must obtain a clear directive from Kharge to the Karnataka government. Consequently, she insisted that he should return to Telangana only after making a public statement on reducing the Almatti project height. “We demand that you enter Telangana only after such an announcement,” she declared.
Eventually, she warned that any delay would harm Telangana’s farmers and dry up South Telangana if the government failed to act decisively.
