Hyderabad: BRS leader and Jagruti president K. Kavitha on Monday met families hit by demolitions in Galipochamma Basti, Gajularamaram, Quthbullapur constituency, and launched a strong attack on the state government.
Kavitha warns government over Hydra demolitions in Hyderabad
Addressing residents, Kavitha said the government spared the powerful while targeting the people with low-income. She questioned why officials carried out demolitions on a Sunday despite clear court orders. “The government cannot choke the lives of the people with low-income, especially during festivals,” she said.
She demanded that officials provide each displaced family with a double-bedroom house and ₹50,000 in relief. To stress her resolve, Kavitha warned she would block bulldozers herself if Hydra resumed demolitions.
The BRS leader also accused Congress MLA Arekapudi Gandhi of encroaching on 12 acres while poor families lost their small homes. Nearly 400 acres around the basti, she pointed out, already suffered encroachments, but successive governments failed to act.
According to Kavitha, officials demolished houses at night, leaving children and elders helpless. She alleged that authorities even razed homes with valid electricity and gas bills.
She further charged the government with lying about issuing notices. Bulldozers, she argued, must first clear big encroachments instead of targeting poor labourers. Kavitha also pressed the government to return money to families who bought venture plots.
“The government must give double-bedroom houses to all 200 affected families. If it fails, I will stop bulldozers from entering this basti again,” she warned.
