HYDERABAD: BRS MLC Kavitha Kalvakuntla has criticized the state government over multiple issues, including the neglect of Telangana’s cultural heritage, unfulfilled farmer support schemes, and inadequate implementation of welfare programs.
Cultural identity and neglect of Telangana figures
Kavitha expressed disappointment over the state’s handling of Telangana’s cultural heritage. She questioned why music for the “Jaya Jaya He Telangana” anthem was composed by M.M. Keeravani instead of a Telangana-based musician. She alleged that Telangana’s identity was being sidelined and criticized the government for not organizing events in honor of poet Dasharathi Krishnamachary’s centenary year.
Farmers’ Issues and Irrigation Concerns
Referring to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan’s statement that Telangana produced 2.6 crore tonnes of paddy, Kavitha asked whether the Kaleshwaram project played no role in this achievement. She pointed out that many farmers are struggling due to lack of irrigation water and incomplete loan waivers. She also criticized the government for failing to provide bonuses to farmers and for not bringing Nagarjuna Sagar under Telangana’s control.
Unfulfilled Promises for Women
Kavitha raised concerns over the lack of implementation of women’s welfare schemes. She emphasized that the government had promised to provide ₹2,500 and one tola of gold for women but has yet to deliver. She also mentioned that free gas connections were not being distributed to all eligible beneficiaries.
Healthcare and Backward Class Representation
The BRS MLC highlighted the establishment of medical colleges in every district under the previous government but accused the current administration of neglecting government hospitals. She also criticized the government for failing to release the Backward Classes Commission report and caste-wise census data. She demanded that the Shamim Akhtar Report be presented in the Assembly for discussion.
