Hyderabad: BRS MLC K. Kavitha has lashed out at her party’s internal detractors, questioning how a private letter she had written to party president K. Chandrashekar Rao ended up in the media and alleging a concerted campaign to malign her using paid social media operatives.
In an informal interaction with journalists, the former MP voiced deep frustration over what she described as a conspiracy to sideline her within the party, even claiming that some BRS leaders tried to hand over the party to the BJP during her incarceration in the Delhi liquor case. “I made it clear, even from jail I would rather stay independent than allow a BJP merger,” she said.
Taking a sharp dig at the silence surrounding the Kaleswaram project probe, Kavitha said, “Why did no one speak up when the Justice P.C. Ghose Commission issued notices to KCR garu? But when it comes to me, suddenly everyone finds their voice.”
She condemned the “vicious tone” used by some within the BRS to discuss her, asking, “Is this how you speak about KCR’s daughter?” Recalling past loyalty, she said she had offered to resign from her posts when her name surfaced in the liquor case, but was stopped by KCR himself. “If I lost as an MP, it wasn’t the public it was my own party leaders who worked against me. KCR later gave me the MLC post to ensure Nizamabad had proper representation.”
Kavitha insisted she had never plotted any rebellion or floated the idea of a new party. “Backstabbing is not my way. If I have an issue, I confront it head-on. I’ve written hundreds of letters to my father this one wasn’t unusual. But this time, he didn’t tear it up like he usually does. I don’t know who leaked it, but I intend to find out,” she said.
She also reminded critics of her role during the Telangana agitation. “I fought for statehood while carrying a child. Those attacking me now were nobodies then. I stood up on cultural and political issues through Telangana Jagruti when few dared to.”
Rejecting any speculation about her joining the Congress, she said, “There’s no truth to that claim. I’m not leaving KCR or my family. They’re trying to drive a wedge between us. But I’ll only work under KCR no one else.”
Kavitha concluded by demanding accountability for the BRS’s Lok Sabha poll defeat, urging the party to act against those responsible for the electoral debacle.
