Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president K. Kavitha vowed to support Telangana’s folk and movement artists. She assured them of full help in their fight for welfare and recognition. Speaking at a meeting with artists on Wednesday, she emphasised the importance of protecting cultural heritage and the individuals who preserve it.
Kavitha support Telangana folk artists facing hardship
According to Kavitha, many artists who protect Telangana’s folk traditions continue to live in hardship. Their plight, she said, is deeply unfortunate. Moreover, these artists have kept the state’s culture alive for future generations, yet they struggle to make a living.
She therefore urged the government to issue identity cards and pensions without delay. Such recognition, in her view, would finally give these artists the dignity and security they deserve. Meanwhile, she called on cultural bodies to extend consistent support at the grassroots level.
Demand for a policy to protect folk art
Kavitha also demanded a special policy to safeguard Telangana’s heritage art forms. She asked the government to act quickly and create structured support for artists.
In addition, she listed several endangered traditions, including Oggu Dolu, Kolattam, Burra Katha, Oggu Katha, Chindu Yakshaganam, Banjara Kadidi Tantri, Koona Pulipattam, Sharada Kathalu, Harikatha, Gondi, Thoti, Adivasi, and Kinnera. Each, she said, represents a unique voice of Telangana’s history.
Furthermore, she stressed that preserving these art forms would protect both livelihoods and cultural identity. After the meeting, artists performed their traditional acts. Kavitha later joined them in song, adding her voice to Telangana’s living folk rhythm.
