Kavitha backs BC quota ordinance, snubs BRS and Teenmar Mallanna remarks

Hyderabad: MLC K. Kavitha on Thursday extended support to the Revanth Reddy-led government’s ordinance amending the Panchayat Raj Act, 2018, to provide 42% reservations for Backward Classes in local body elections.

Speaking to the media from her residence in Banjara Hills, Kavitha said the ordinance was a correct and necessary step, and backed the decision after consultations with legal experts.

She criticised the BRS for opposing the ordinance, calling their stance misplaced. “They’ll eventually come around. Maybe it’ll take them four days,” she said with a pointed remark aimed at her own party’s leadership.

Kavitha also addressed comments made against her by MLC Teenmar Mallanna, expressing displeasure that the BRS had not responded to his remarks. “I’ve left that to their wisdom,” she said, adding that she had effectively written Mallanna off. “I don’t know who he is,” she added.

The war of words between Kavitha and Mallanna escalated after the latter made provocative comments suggesting inappropriate political ties. Jagruthi activists attempted to confront Mallanna, leading to chaos and a security scare in which his gunman fired in the air.

Despite the ongoing row, Kavitha reiterated her support for the BC quota ordinance and insisted that legal backing makes it a sound move.
