Hyderabad: The Keesara Land Scam has been exposed after police arrested eight members of a gang involved in fabricating fake certificates and forged documents to grab open plots worth over ₹5 crore. In a joint operation, Bhongir SOT and Keesara police carried out the arrests, while at least 10 more accused remain absconding.
The Modus Operandi
According to Rachakonda Police Commissioner Sudheer Babu, the gang specifically targeted vacant plots in Rampally village, Keesara mandal. They prepared fake death and succession certificates by declaring genuine owners as deceased. Impersonators then posed as “legal heirs” to register the plots in their names.
In one case, the gang produced a fabricated civil court compromise order to transfer a 200 sq. yard plot. For another 300 sq. yard plot, they even created a fake passport, falsely showing the original owner as a U.S. citizen who had given Power of Attorney to one of the accused.
How the fraud came to light
When actual owners discovered illegal registrations on their land, they informed the Sub-Registrar’s office. The matter was passed on to police, who found that the gang had already completed two fraudulent sales. Investigators also recovered several forged documents prepared for future transactions, confirming the scale of the Keesara Land Scam.
The arrests
The accused arrested are Beegudem Aravind, Sampangi Suresh, Eega Hariprasad, Somnath, Kotluru Nagendra Prasad, Mohammed Hussain, Yanjala Shekhar, and Vanaja. Police seized 21 types of forgery equipment used in creating the fake documents.
Criminal background
Prime accused Nagendra Prasad already faces four previous cases, while Somnath and Hariprasad have multiple cases each. Police confirmed that PD Act proceedings are being initiated against them.
Commissioner’s warning
Commissioner Sudheer Babu said the gang’s activities caused immense distress to genuine landowners. He urged the public to cross-check land records thoroughly before making any purchase. He added that strict action would continue against those involved in the Keesara Land Scam.
