HYDERABAD: A Class 9 student at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Koyilkonda, Mahbubnagar district, attempted suicide by consuming acid on Monday after allegedly being scolded by school staff.
According to reports, the student was reprimanded for speaking on the phone while outside the school premises. Fearing she would be sent home and feeling deeply distressed, she resorted to consuming acid in an attempt to end her life.
School staff immediately shifted the student to a hospital for treatment.
Parents of students have alleged that staff members at the school frequently mistreat the girls and that higher authorities have failed to take action, allowing such behaviour to continue unchecked.
