Hyderabad: Police installed the iconic Khairatabad Bada Ganesh on Wednesday and announced traffic restrictions to handle the heavy rush of devotees. The restrictions will remain in place from August 27 to September 6 during the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities.
Officials expect major traffic bottlenecks at Khairatabad, Shadan College, Nirankari, Old PS Saifabad, Mint Compound and Necklace Rotary. They urged motorists to plan in advance and use alternative routes.
Traffic diversions
Vehicles from the PV Narasimha Rao statue towards the Mint Compound via the Rajiv Gandhi statue will move towards Nirankari junction. Traffic from Old PS Saifabad via Rajdoot Lane will shift towards Iqbal Minar. Vehicles from Iqbal Minar through Mint Compound will go towards Imax Theatre.
Traffic from Mint Compound will divert at Secretariat Cross Temple towards Telugu Talli junction. Vehicles from Necklace Rotary heading to Mint Compound must move towards Telugu Talli or Khairatabad flyover. Those from Nirankari towards Post Office and Railway Gate will divert to Old PS Saifabad.
Parking for devotees
Police arranged special parking at Race Course Road, NTR Ghat, HMDA parking beside Imax Theatre, the open ground opposite Imax, and Saraswati Vidya Mandir High School premises. Devotees coming via Khairatabad Junction can park at Visvesvaraya Bhavan.
Public transport advised
Police urged devotees to use public transport such as Metro Rail, MMTS, and RTC buses. They said this would reduce congestion and ensure smooth traffic movement.
