Hyderabad: The iconic Khairatabad Ganesh idol was immersed in Hussain Sagar Lake on Saturday, with lakhs of devotees chanting “Ganapati Bappa Morya” as they bid farewell to the deity. The immersion brought Hyderabad’s nine-day Ganesh festivities to a grand close.
The towering 70-tonne idol began its shobha yatra from Khairatabad at 7 a.m. and reached Tank Bund by midday. Organisers deployed a specially arranged heavy-duty truck from Vijayawada to carry the massive idol. Devotees packed the procession route, offering prayers and seeking a final glimpse of the Maha Ganesh.
Tank Bund turns into sea of devotees
By the time the procession reached NTR Marg, Tank Bund had turned into a sea of worshippers. Police and civic staff were out in full strength to manage the huge turnout and maintain order during the darshan.
At Crane No. 4 on NTR Marg, members of the Khairatabad Utsav Committee performed the concluding rituals. Following the pujas, a giant crane slowly lowered the idol into Hussain Sagar, marking a peaceful conclusion to the annual Ganesh Utsav.
