Hyderabad: A 28-year-old woman from Khammam district died by suicide after being allegedly harassed by a local rowdysheeter. The incident took place in V. Venkatayapalem panchayat of Raghunathapalem mandal.
According to police reports, the victim, identified as Boda Susheela, lived in Jagya Tanda and had been facing continuous harassment from her neighbour, Dharavath Vinay, a known rowdysheeter. He had been stalking her for several weeks and reportedly tried to force himself on her.
Khammam woman suicide: Harassment cited as cause
On Monday, Susheela went to Ammapalem village in Konijerla mandal to collect cotton along with another woman. Vinay followed her there and allegedly confronted her again, demanding she comply with his advances. When she resisted, he attacked her and fled.
Deeply distressed by the assault, Susheela returned home and later died by suicide.
Her husband, Shivakumar, lodged a complaint with the police, alleging that Vinay’s harassment drove his wife to end her life. He demanded strict action against the accused.
Family suspects foul play, demands fair probe
Meanwhile, Susheela’s relatives expressed doubts over the circumstances of her death. They alleged that her body bore several injuries, which were not mentioned in the autopsy report. They also claimed the case was being mishandled and demanded a transparent investigation.
Police said the complaint has been registered and further inquiry is underway.
