4% reservation for Muslims in tenders by Karnataka government against constitution: Kishan Reddy

HYDERABAD: Union Minister Kishan Reddy has criticized the Karnataka government’s recent decision to amend the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement (KTPP) Act to provide a 4% reservation for Muslim contractors in government tenders. Expressing his disapproval on Twitter, Reddy stated, “The Congress government in Karnataka is undermining the constitutional rights of OBCs, SCs, and STs by introducing a 4% reservation for Muslims in government tenders. This move blatantly disregards the Constitution.”

He further accused the Congress of engaging in appeasement politics, extending religion-based job reservations to government tenders, which he described as a dangerous precedent. “Such religion-based reservations are not only unjust but also unconstitutional, dishonoring Dr. B.R. Ambedkar,” Reddy added. He also expressed concern that similar measures might be implemented in Telangana in the future.

The Congress government’s decision has sparked nationwide debate, with many criticizing the move as unjust, while others argue that providing opportunities to all is a positive step.
