HYDERABAD: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy has expressed strong criticism of the Telangana state budget, alleging significant corruption and a lack of clear strategy in implementing electoral promises.
In a recent statement, Reddy accused the Congress-led state government of engaging in corrupt practices across various sectors, including sand and liquor businesses, illegal land dealings, and excessive borrowing. He highlighted that within just 15 months, the state government has accumulated debts totaling ₹1.52 lakh crore, mirroring the financial mismanagement observed during the previous BRS administration.
Reddy emphasized the absence of a coherent plan to fulfill electoral promises, suggesting that the current government’s approach lacks direction and accountability. Addressing criticisms regarding the BJP’s presence in southern India, Reddy asserted that the party maintains a stronghold in Karnataka and is steadily gaining support in Telangana, as evidenced by recent parliamentary and MLC elections.
He also condemned a recent government circular that bans protests at Osmania University, drawing parallels to similar restrictions imposed by the previous BRS government. He implied that the current Congress administration is perpetuating the same restrictive policies, thereby stifling democratic expression.
In his concluding remarks, Reddy urged the state government to adopt transparent and accountable governance practices, emphasizing the need for strategic planning to effectively implement electoral promises and address the pressing issues facing Telangana.
