Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy has urged the Telangana government to officially observe Telangana Liberation Day, citing the precedent set by Maharashtra and Karnataka. He made the statement at Parade Ground during the inauguration of a BJP-organised photo exhibition.
The Centre, he noted, has been commemorating the occasion for the last five years. Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the exhibition, which marks the build-up to the September 17 events in Secunderabad.
Kishan Reddy criticised the previous government for avoiding the celebration, claiming it acted out of fear of AIMIM. He also blamed the Congress government for failing to recognise the day officially, despite being in power for two years.
He accused all major parties of bowing to AIMIM’s influence. However, he promised that a BJP-led government would declare September 17 as an official state celebration.
The Minister said the Ministry of Culture will organise large-scale events at Secunderabad Parade Ground. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, BJP MP Bandi Sanjay, and leaders from Maharashtra will attend.
On the same day, authorities will unveil a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at Cantonment Park. The event will also include a ceremony to honour Telangana’s freedom fighters.
