Hyderabad: Union Minister Kishan Reddy has emphasised that Hyderabad’s development should not be limited to its high-tech zones, urging authorities to allocate adequate funds for the growth of the Old City and other underserved areas.
Speaking on Friday at the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting held at the Marri Chenna Reddy Human Resource Development Institute, Kishan Reddy reviewed central government-funded projects and their implementation in the region.
He pointed out that areas such as Old City, Gowlipura, Amberpet, Sanathnagar, Khairatabad, and Secunderabad are integral parts of Hyderabad and should not be neglected in development plans. Kishan Reddy noted that many of these localities continue to struggle with inadequate infrastructure and lack of basic amenities.
Highlighting the growing population and expanding jurisdiction of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the minister said that budget allocations must go beyond select neighbourhoods and extend to backward and underdeveloped regions. He urged officials to identify the specific needs of each division and submit comprehensive reports to the central government.
Kishan Reddy also directed authorities to design strategic plans to ensure effective utilisation of central funds. Commenting on public transport, he acknowledged that the Hyderabad Metro Rail currently only extends up to Afzalgunj. He assured that the Centre would consider funding and loans for further metro expansions if phased proposals are submitted in the coming months.
