Hyderabad: Union Minister and BJP Telangana president G Kishan Reddy used the occasion of Telangana Formation Day to deliver a sharp political broadside, accusing the previous BRS government of hijacking the State’s aspirations and leaving it buried in debt.
Speaking after hoisting the national flag at the BJP State office, Kishan Reddy recalled the decades-long, peaceful Telangana movement and the sacrifices that made the dream of statehood a reality. “Telangana was won through the sweat and sacrifice of many,” he said.
He asserted that the BJP was the first party to unequivocally back the demand for statehood. “We took a stand in favour of Telangana when others were still calculating the political cost,” he said, claiming the party’s support had been principled and consistent.
However, his message quickly turned critical of what followed. “The youth believed that Telangana would bring jobs and justice,” he said. “Instead, the only people who truly benefited were members of one family.”
In a direct attack on former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s family, Kishan Reddy alleged that despite promises of employment and development, the past decade had left young people disillusioned and unemployed. “None of the dreams that people fought for have materialised,” he said.
He also raised alarm over the State’s financial health. “Telangana began with a surplus budget. Today, it is buried under a debt of ₹10 lakh crore,” he claimed, accusing the previous regime of financial mismanagement in the name of irrigation and welfare.
The speech set a combative tone for the BJP’s positioning in the State, as it seeks to reclaim political ground by aligning itself with the original spirit of the Telangana movement.
