Hyderabad: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Tuesday described the explosion at the Sigachi factory in Pashamilaram industrial estate as a deeply unfortunate incident.
After visiting the site along with BJP Telangana president N Ramachandra Rao, he said 36 bodies had been recovered so far, with 11 more people still missing. Rescue teams continued operations at the scene in Sangareddy district.
Kishan Reddy told reporters that the company supplies raw materials to pharma firms. He recalled a previous industrial accident where 11 people were killed due to a short circuit and suggested the state government form a high-level team to prevent such tragedies.
He questioned whether industry inspections were being carried out sincerely or merely as a formality and demanded strict action against those responsible for the accident.
Reddy noted there were three other industries under the Sigachi group and said these too should be inspected. He expressed grief over the deaths and assured that the BJP would stand by the victims’ families once their names are finalised.
He pressed the state government to move swiftly on locating those missing and suggested that industrial estates maintain ambulances on site. He pledged central government cooperation and proposed deploying police vehicles to help recover bodies under debris.
Reddy also said that families taking bodies back to their home states would receive support, and rebuffed reporters’ questions about politics, saying this was not the time for such debates.
