Hyderabad: Kodad will soon have a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) to provide free, high-quality CBSE education to rural students. The permanent campus will be set up on 19.12 acres near KRR College in Balajinagar, with ₹50 crore sanctioned for construction.
Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy confirmed the approval, secured after his persistent efforts with the Central government. The proposal came at the request of local MLA Uttam Padmavathi Reddy.
Boost for rural education
The Minister said JNVs are a flagship initiative launched in 1986 by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to make India a literacy leader. These schools offer free education from Classes 6 to 12, along with free meals, accommodation, textbooks and uniforms. Admission is based on an entrance exam to ensure talented rural students get access to quality education.
Local educators welcomed the decision, noting the success of JNVs across India in producing excellent academic results. They praised the efforts of Uttam Kumar Reddy and Uttam Padmavathi in bringing the prestigious institution to Kodad.
