HYDERABAD: In a development that has sparked a legal dispute between two state police departments, the Kolkata Police has filed a kidnapping case against Hyderabad Police for allegedly arresting a fraud suspect in Kolkata without prior intimation or consent from the local authorities.
According to sources, Hyderabad Police recently apprehended an individual accused in a fraud case and transported him out of Kolkata. However, the local police claim that they were neither informed nor consulted about the operation, which they argue constitutes a violation of due legal procedure.
Kolkata Police maintained that in the case of interstate arrests, it is mandatory to notify and coordinate with the local police, failing which the act may be considered unlawful. On this basis, a case under kidnapping-related provisions has been registered against the Hyderabad Police officials involved.
Responding to the allegations, Hyderabad Police asserted that the arrest was conducted in full compliance with legal norms and that sufficient evidence supported the detention of the accused. They maintained that the operation was lawful.
The incident has now escalated into a legal matter between the two states, with officials stating that coordination and formal communication are essential during interstate police operations to avoid such conflicts.
A full investigation is underway, and senior police officials from both states may engage in discussions to resolve the issue amicably.
