Hyderabad: Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy instructed R&B engineers to stay on high alert as floods damaged 629 kilometres of roads across Telangana. He ordered immediate restoration to ensure public safety.
During a review meeting on Saturday, the Minister met with Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj and senior officials. He said flood damage occurred at 454 locations, affecting major roads. So far, 22 stretches have washed away. Of these, four have already been restored temporarily. Officials cleared 71 out of 108 critical points. Work continues at the remaining sites.

Komatireddy asked engineers to inspect culverts, causeways, and bridges. He stressed the need for coordination with police, irrigation, revenue, panchayat raj, and electricity departments. “Temporary fixes must happen quickly so public transport is not disrupted,” he said. He also requested proposals for permanent repairs.
The Minister instructed all senior officials to remain at district headquarters. He demanded real-time updates. “No one should take leave for the next two days,” he warned. “We can rebuild roads, but we cannot bring back lives.”
Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj said all district circles have 24/7 control rooms. These are connected to the State R&B control centre. Chief Engineer Mohan Naik reported that all 37 divisions are alert. He added that video calls are being used to track field teams.
Komatireddy appreciated the swift work of engineers over the past two days. He asked them to stay fully prepared, as heavy rain is likely to continue.
