Hyderabad: Minister for Roads & Buildings and Cinematography Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Wednesday offered floral tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The event took place at her statue on PV Marg in Hyderabad to mark her birth anniversary.
He called Gandhi a bold and far-sighted leader who reshaped India’s economy and society. Reddy said reforms like the nationalisation of banks and the 20-Point Programme still stand as major achievements in India’s progress.
“Her slogan ‘Garibi Hatao’ is still etched in the hearts of low-income people,” Reddy said. He added that the Congress party remains firm in its commitment to her values.
He pointed to the Telangana government’s plan to build 20 lakh Indiramma houses as an example of continuing her vision. Each house receives ₹5 lakh support and is registered in a woman’s name, helping families live with dignity and ownership.
Reddy said Gandhi’s work for national growth and for people in need still guides today’s leadership.
