Hyderabad: Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Monday directed officials to speed up flood repair works across Telangana. He also reviewed major ongoing projects, including hospitals, collectorate complexes, highways, and flyovers.
Chairing a high-level review with senior engineers, the Minister assessed the damage caused by recent rains. He told officials to take up road restoration and other works on priority.
Komatireddy orders fast flood repair works
Officials said rains damaged 1,370 km of roads at 1,062 points. They reported that 68 roads were cut off, disrupting travel. Cross-drainage structures worth ₹306 crore also suffered damage.
So far, the department restored 38 stretches temporarily. Water receded at 478 of 520 overflow points. Of 445 traffic interruptions, officials restored 375 for use. Engineers estimated ₹72.49 crore for temporary works and ₹1,263.33 crore for permanent repairs.
Komatireddy asked engineers to complete temporary works on a war footing once rains ease. He also told them to conduct field inspections before preparing permanent repair estimates. “The government will not tolerate delays or poor-quality work,” he warned.
Hospitals, collectorates, and highways under review
The Minister reviewed the status of Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) hospitals, new medical colleges, and Integrated District Collectorate (IDOC) complexes. He urged officials to finish works at Mulugu, Warangal, and Karimnagar collectorates, which are nearing completion. He also pressed for faster work at Narayanpet and Adilabad.
“These projects are crucial for better healthcare and administration. People must access modern facilities without delay,” Komatireddy said.
He further reviewed highway expansions and flyovers. Expressing concern over delays, he directed engineers to speed up works to prevent cost overruns and traffic problems.
Komatireddy announced that once the election code ends, the government will hold a state-wide review of road projects. He said a new policy on Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) works would be finalised with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to secure approvals and funding.
He reminded officials that the Roads and Buildings department carries a major responsibility. “You must maintain quality standards, meet deadlines, and track progress regularly,” he said.
The meeting was attended by R&B ENC Mohan Naik, Chief Engineers Rajeshwar Reddy, B.V. Rao, Laxman, M. Srinivas Reddy, Kishan Rao, and senior staff. They presented reports on road conditions, project progress, and funding needs.
