Hyderabad: People in Nalgonda district now have easier access to advanced surgeries, thanks to a new laparoscopy unit opened at the Government General Hospital. Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy inaugurated the facility on Monday. The unit was set up in partnership with the Komatireddy Prateek Foundation.
The launch event attracted a large crowd. Notably, Padma Vibhushan awardee and global gastroenterologist Dr. Nageshwar Reddy and Dr. G.V. Rao joined as chief guests.
Laparoscopy unit Nalgonda brings metro-level care to district hospital
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Venkat Reddy said the government aims to bring city-level healthcare to rural regions. He stressed that the new unit will help poor and middle-income families get advanced surgeries without traveling far.
Dr. Nageshwar Reddy explained that laparoscopic procedures involve smaller cuts, less pain, and quicker recovery. He called the unit a major leap for rural medical services.
Meanwhile, Prateek Foundation members said they equipped the unit with modern tools and skilled staff. They expect hundreds of patients to benefit from the service each year.
Local leaders, hospital staff, and residents attended the inauguration, marking what many called a key step toward improved public health in the district.
