During the Maha Shivaratri celebrations at Komuravelli Mallanna Jatara, a brief commotion occurred as devotees gathered at the Pedda Patnam ritual site, leading to a minor police intervention.
HYDERABAD: The Komuravelli Mallanna Jatara, one of the most significant religious events in Telangana, witnessed a large turnout of devotees during the Maha Shivaratri festival. As part of the celebrations, the Pedda Patnam ritual was conducted at the Thotabavi Kalyana Vedika, marking an important tradition of the festival.
During this ritual, Oggu Pujaris performed special prayers and decorated the site with vibrant five-colored powders. The utsava vigrahas (festival idols) were brought in a grand procession and placed at Pedda Patnam for worship. Following the religious ceremonies, the priests crossed the Pedda Patnam, and devotees proceeded after them.
Minor Commotion During the Ritual
As a large number of devotees gathered at the galleries on all four sides, a brief stampede-like situation arose due to overcrowding. In an attempt to control the situation, police carried out a mild lathi charge, dispersing the crowd to restore order.
Three devotees sustained minor injuries during the incident. The situation was brought under control quickly, and the event continued without further disruption.
