Konda Surekha: Locals must be trained to prevent forest fires

Hyderabad: Telangana Forest Minister Konda Surekha on Saturday stressed the importance of training local communities to prevent forest fires and strengthen scientific forest conservation across the state.

Minister urges proactive conservation and tourism plans

During a state-level review meeting on the Telangana Green Fund at the Secretariat, Surekha asked forest officials to implement fire prevention steps immediately. She directed them to take up conservation work using scientific methods. She also called for integrated planning to promote eco-tourism and attract foreign visitors. A joint meeting with the Forest, Tourism, and Industries departments will be held soon to finalize the approach.

Forest parks and wildlife facilities under development

Officials briefed the minister on the progress of 26 urban forest parks and four ecotourism sites. They also discussed ongoing wildlife management in Nagarjuna Sagar and a new blackbuck rescue center in Narayanpet.

The meeting included a review of Green Fund usage, nursery projects, plantation activities, maintenance efforts, and public awareness programs. Principal Secretary Ahmed Nadeem and PCCF Dr. Suvarna participated in the review.

Surekha said officials must focus on fire control in Mulugu forests and carry out rejuvenation works. She also instructed them to prioritize plantations along the Warangal–Medaram corridor as part of the state’s broader forest strategy.
