Hyderabad: Former Minister Koppula Eshwar strongly criticised the Telangana government on Saturday, accusing three state ministers Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar, and Adluri Laxman Kumar of failing to secure urea supply for farmers despite their shared jurisdiction in Karimnagar district. He lambasted them for allegedly residing in Hyderabad’s star hotels and avoiding pressing action.
Farmers suffer, officials silent, charges Koppula
Eshwar said farmers queued at single-window centers before dawn for urea but were met with shortages and despair. “Even basic relief remains elusive due to ministerial inaction,” he said during the press statement. He further demanded that the Centre urgently deliver urea on a war-footing, regardless of political theatrics.
Eshwar emphasised that the distress resembles pre-state formation neglect under Congress rule. He slammed current efforts as performative, accusing officials of stalling local elections over fears of political backlash from affected farmers.
Centre urged to intervene amid widespread distress
Highlighting a demand-supply gap, Eshwar noted farmers need several lakh metric tonnes of the fertiliser annually, while Telangana has received only a fraction. He questioned the sincerity of ministers who blamed the central authorities for shortages rather than taking ownership.
Eshwar concluded by urging the state government to take immediate steps to resolve the crisis and restore farmers’ faith—either through direct action or by demanding clarity and support from the Centre.
