Hyderabad: Flood levels continued to rise in Krishna basin projects on Sunday following heavy rain across upstream and catchment areas. The Srisailam reservoir recorded a sharp surge in inflows, prompting engineers to lift three gates and release water downstream.
At 881.4 feet, the water level at Srisailam stood just short of its full reservoir level of 885 feet. The inflow from Jurala and Sunkesula reached 1,18,410 cusecs, while 79,269 cusecs flowed downstream toward Nagarjuna Sagar. Storage at the reservoir reached 195.6 TMC against its full capacity of 215.8 TMC.
Hydropower generation continued on both the left and right banks of the dam. A combined discharge of 65,807 cusecs was recorded through the hydroelectric units.
Downstream, the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir also swelled with rising inflows. Authorities opened 22 crest gates to a height of five feet to let out 2,12,753 cusecs, against an inflow of 1,71,683 cusecs.
The water level at Sagar stood at 587 feet, close to the full level of 590 feet. The reservoir stored 305.5 TMC of water against a capacity of 312.04 TMC.
