KTR blames Congress govt for Jurala gate failure, cites neglect, prior disasters

Jurala gate failure

Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Thursday held the Congress government responsible for the breaking of the ninth gate rope at the Jurala Priyadarshini project, calling it a direct outcome of administrative neglect.

He said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had failed to oversee even basic maintenance of existing infrastructure. “The Chief Minister has not laid a single brick and cannot even manage functioning projects,” KTR said.

He criticised the government’s failure to carry out routine maintenance at the Jurala spillway despite predictable flood patterns each year. As flood levels rise at Jurala, he warned the Chief Minister and ministers to “stop sleeping soundly” and act immediately.

Referring to earlier incidents, KTR cited the SLBC tunnel collapse that killed eight people, as well as flooding in 16 villages due to the Peddavagu. He added that the Wattem pump house was submerged and the Sunkishala retaining wall failure had caused damage worth hundreds of crores.

He said the snapping of the gate 9 rope and vulnerability of other gates indicated serious risks to the Jurala project.
