KTR blames Revanth Reddy for Gurukul schools shutdown over rent dues

Gurukul schools shutdown

Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday held Chief Minister Revanth Reddy responsible for the shutdown of Telangana’s Gurukul welfare schools. He cited nearly a year of unpaid rent as the reason for locking up buildings that house students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

KTR accuses Congress of deliberate neglect

Calling the closures “a disgraceful and heartless act,” KTR said the schools had transformed the lives of lakhs of poor students. He accused the Congress government of allowing the system to collapse through active neglect.

KTR also alleged that Revanth Reddy, who heads the Education Department, is working to dismantle a legacy created by former chief minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao. “While the Chief Minister sits on crores of rupees, buildings that house poor students’ dreams are being locked,” he said. “This reflects not just inefficiency but deliberate cruelty.”

Gurukul dues and fee reimbursements left unpaid

KTR said the refusal to clear rent arrears shows a breakdown in financial and administrative discipline. He also claimed the government is withholding fee reimbursement dues, pushing thousands of students into uncertainty.

“The Congress government is not just bankrupting the treasury; it’s bankrupting the future of our youth,” he said. He described the Gurukul system as a revolutionary education model. It provided residential schooling to BC, SC, ST, minority, and poor upper-caste students.

BRS threatens statewide protest

KTR warned that if the Congress government destroys the Gurukul system, BRS will launch a statewide agitation. He demanded that the government immediately clear all rent dues to protect students’ education and dignity.

He further alleged that the State’s debt under Revanth Reddy had reached ₹2.5 lakh crore. “Yet the government cannot pay basic dues. The people of Telangana will soon hold him accountable for this betrayal,” KTR said.
