Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Monday assured farmers affected by the Regional Ring Road (RRR) alignment that his party would fight for their cause. He met victims from Nalgonda, Suryapet, Gajwel, and Sangareddy constituencies at Telangana Bhavan, along with former minister Jagadish Reddy and other leaders.
Farmers accuse Congress of betrayal
KTR reminded farmers that before the elections, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi promised that no one would face problems due to the RRR. Farmers supported Congress based on those assurances. “After coming to power, the government changed the alignment, causing severe losses. Local Congress leaders abandoned the farmers,” he alleged.
BRS contrasts its record with Congress
KTR said that under BRS rule, agriculture and irrigation always had top priority. “Whenever land acquisition issues came up, we spoke directly to farmers, ensured rehabilitation, and offered permanent solutions,” he stated. In contrast, he accused Congress of altering alignments in both the Outer Ring Road and the RRR, which he said destroyed the lives of poor farmers.
Political fight ahead
KTR announced that BRS MPs would raise the issue of RRR victims in Parliament and the Rajya Sabha. He added that the party would press the matter strongly in the Assembly as well. “We will not relent until a scientifically planned alignment is in place,” he told farmers.
Call for solidarity among farmers
Appealing for unity, KTR urged victims to pass resolutions in their villages and boycott local body elections. “If you stand together, both the Central and State governments will be forced to respond,” he said. He also advised farmers not to lose morale or take hasty steps.
