Hyderabad: BRS working president K. Tarakarama Rama Rao has called on the state government to crack down on fake seed companies after a group of frustrated farmers from Gadwal district brought their plight to his doorstep.
Meeting at KTR’s Nandinagar residence, the farmers, led by local BRS leader Vijay Kumar Kurava, poured out their anger and despair. They said they’d been left with nothing but debts and empty fields thanks to unscrupulous seed dealers who sold them dud seeds.
Some even feared suicide was the only way out.
KTR didn’t waste time. He rang up Gadwal District Collector Santosh on the spot, urging him to sit down with the seed companies and make them pay up. He demanded that the farmers get every rupee they’re owed.
“It’s heartbreaking,” KTR said. “These farmers work all year hoping for a harvest, only to have their dreams crushed by a few greedy companies. We can’t let them get away with it.”
The farmers said they were promised the seeds would produce healthy crops, but instead they ended up with barren fields and no way to repay their loans. KTR’s quick response gave them a glimmer of hope that the government might finally step in to hold the companies accountable.
