Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government, demanding that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy apologise to the people for “failing on every front” during its 21 months in power.
Speaking after welcoming Congress leaders and workers from Banswada into the BRS fold at party chief K. Chandrashekar Rao’s Erravalli residence, KTR said the government had lost public trust within two years. Senior leaders including former minister V. Prashanth Reddy, Rajya Sabha MPs Suresh Reddy and Nama Nageswara Rao, and former MLAs Hanmanth Shinde, Govardhan and Jajula Surender were present.
KTR demands apology from Congress govt over debt and failed promises
KTR accused the government of reckless borrowing, claiming it had taken over ₹2.20 lakh crore in loans in just 21 months without implementing any new welfare scheme or development programme. He alleged that while the BRS government borrowed only ₹20,000 crore annually, the Congress regime was raising ₹20,000 crore every month.
He rejected Congress claims about previous debt figures, stating that Parliament records confirmed the BRS government left only ₹2.80 lakh crore in borrowings. “The current government has pushed Telangana into crisis without creating a single asset,” he said.
The BRS leader also alleged a conspiracy behind the urea shortage. He claimed the government was deliberately not supplying fertiliser to farmers in order to avoid crop procurement and payment of bonuses. “The mindset of this government towards agriculture is malicious,” he remarked.
KTR cites defections, predicts Banswada bypoll defeat for Pocharam
KTR said the Supreme Court had issued clear directives on defections, and by-elections in Telangana would take place within six months. He warned that BRS would continue its legal battle until Banswada MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy lost his Assembly membership.
“Pocharam is in such a pathetic situation that he cannot even say which party he belongs to. But every BRS worker proudly says they belong to the party that gave Telangana,” he said.
KTR predicted Pocharam’s defeat in the upcoming bypoll, asserting that the Congress government’s failures and the Chief Minister’s “provocative style” had united public opposition.
