HYDERABAD: Against the backdrop of the National Human Rights Commission’s (NHRC) report on the Lagcherla farmers’ issue, BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao has demanded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy offer an unconditional apology to the farmers. KTR made this demand through a post on social media.
He stated that the government led by Revanth Reddy had acted inhumanely towards the Lagcherla farmers, a matter that drew criticism in the NHRC’s recent report. KTR said that, in the interest of farmers’ dignity and justice, Revanth Reddy should immediately tender an apology.
The NHRC, in its recent report, expressed concern over the eviction of Lagcherla farmers and the treatment they received. Sharing key points from the report, KTR criticised the state government and asserted that the BRS stood firmly with the farmers and would continue to advocate for their rights.
He further alleged that the current Congress government was pursuing anti-farmer policies, which he described as dangerous for the state’s agricultural system. KTR demanded that, in addition to an apology, compensation be provided to the affected farmers.
The issue has now taken on a political dimension, and it is expected that the debate around it will intensify in the coming days.
