Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Thursday inspected flood-affected localities in Sircilla and interacted with victims before launching a scathing attack on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing him of ignoring the crisis.
Speaking to reporters after his visit, KTR said that while heavy rains and floods were causing misery across Telangana, the Chief Minister was holding reviews on Musi river beautification and even discussing Olympic plans for the state. “Rome was burning and Nero was playing the fiddle. Telangana is reeling under floods, but the CM is busy with beautification reviews and Olympics. What matters today is not these projects, but assessing crop loss, property damage, and the number of lives affected,” he said.
KTR slams govt for lack of planning, demands compensation
KTR recalled that during the previous BRS government, helicopters were deployed to rescue people stranded in floods in Mancherial and Bhupalpally. He alleged that today, state-owned helicopters were being used for election campaigns in Bihar and elsewhere, instead of serving people in Telangana.
Referring to Narmala in Rajanna Sircilla, where five people were trapped and later rescued by NDRF helicopters, KTR said one person had already been washed away and crop and property losses were mounting. “If the government had been alert and had proper planning, such losses could have been avoided,” he remarked.
He demanded that the government pay ₹25,000 per acre as compensation to farmers who lost crops, ₹25 lakh to the families of victims, and sanction Indiramma houses to those whose homes were destroyed.
KTR added that BRS leaders and workers were already engaged in relief activities across flood-hit districts, providing food and medical assistance. “Even in opposition, we are committed to standing with the people,” he said, while appreciating revenue and police officials for their prompt efforts.
