HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has strongly criticized the Telangana Congress government’s 2025-26 budget, accusing it of failing to allocate funds for key welfare schemes promised before the elections. Taking to social media, KTR called the budget a “betrayal of people’s trust”, highlighting the absence of crucial financial provisions for schemes such as pensions, financial assistance for the unemployed, and support for marginalized workers.
KTR pointed out that the Congress government, in its election manifesto, had promised a monthly pension of ₹4,000 for the elderly and other eligible beneficiaries. However, the recently announced budget does not allocate any funds for this scheme, raising questions about the party’s commitment to its welfare guarantees.
Further, KTR emphasized that the Congress, in its Kamareddy Declaration, pledged ₹20,000 crore for the welfare of Other Backward Classes (OBCs). However, the budget does not reflect this commitment, leading to disappointment among OBC communities who expected substantial support from the government.
The BRS leader also criticized the government for neglecting several other key promises, including:
• Financial aid for auto drivers
• Unemployment allowance for jobless youth
• Assistance for Swiggy and gig workers
• ₹2,500 per month for women
• ₹12,000 for landless agricultural workers
KTR questioned the Congress leadership on why these welfare schemes were left out of the budget and accused them of misleading the public for electoral gains. He further stated that the budget prioritizes optics over real welfare, failing to provide necessary funds for Telangana’s most vulnerable sections.
The Congress government, on the other hand, has defended its budget, claiming that it is focused on economic stability and long-term development. However, with growing criticism from the opposition, the party may face pressure to address these concerns and clarify its stance on fulfilling pre-election promises.
