Hyderabad: IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu on Tuesday accused BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao of spreading lies on the Kaynes semiconductor issue to deflect from his own failures. He said the claim that Telangana lost the Kaynes project due to government inaction was completely false.
Speaking to reporters, Sridhar Babu said Kaynes Technology did not abandon Telangana but chose Gujarat only because the Central Government and the BJP-led Gujarat Government offered massive subsidies. “KTR knows this, but he still misleads the people of Telangana,” he said.
He cited data to show that under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), the Centre offered a 50% subsidy for the Kaynes project in Sanand, Gujarat. For a total project value of ₹3,307 crore, the Centre sanctioned ₹1,654.5 crore. Gujarat added another 40%, taking total subsidies to around ₹2,314.9 crore—nearly 70% of the project cost.
By comparison, Telangana’s own policy would have allowed support worth just ₹330 crore. “This is nothing but stepmotherly treatment by the Centre,” Sridhar Babu said, slamming the BJP for favoring Gujarat while denying similar aid to Telangana.
He accused KTR of ignoring the Centre’s bias and instead blaming the state government for political convenience. “His silence on BJP’s favoritism exposes his lack of courage,” he said. He added that BRS had adopted a Goebbels-style tactic of repeating lies to sway public opinion, but Telangana’s citizens would not be fooled.
The minister also referred to a recent statement by Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, who admitted that Gujarat’s incentive package amounted to ₹3.2 crore per job created. “That alone proves how the Centre lured Kaynes away,” he said.
