In significant Telangana breaking news, BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has expressed solidarity with students and environmentalists opposing the auction of 400 acres in Kancha Gachibowli, pledging to develop the area into an eco-park if his party returns to power.
HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao has publicly supported students and environmentalists protesting the Telangana government’s decision to auction 400 acres of land in Kancha Gachibowli, near the University of Hyderabad. In an open letter, KTR commended the students’ efforts and saluted the passion of environmentalists defending the area’s biodiversity. He criticised the current administration for proceeding with land clearance despite ongoing protests and legal challenges.
KTR pledged that, if BRS returns to power, the party will reclaim the disputed land and transform it into a vast eco-park, drawing inspiration from New York’s Central Park. He asserted that this development would serve as a lasting gift to the students and residents of Hyderabad.
The controversy centers on the Telangana government’s plan to auction the land for infrastructure and urban development projects, a move expected to generate significant revenue. However, students and environmentalists argue that the area is home to over 455 species of flora and fauna, making it a critical green space for the city.
The Supreme Court has intervened, ordering a halt to all activities on the site until proper environmental assessments are conducted. Despite this, reports indicate that land clearance efforts have continued, leading to heightened tensions and arrests of protesting students.
KTR’s support adds a significant political dimension to the dispute, highlighting the ongoing debate over environmental conservation and urban development in Telangana.
