Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Friday paid rich tributes to Nawab Ali Nawaz Jung Bahadur, as Telangana observed Engineers Day to honour the legendary engineer’s role in shaping the state’s irrigation and infrastructure legacy.
Posting on platform X, KTR described Nawaz Jung as a pioneering figure who contributed immensely to Telangana’s water management systems. He credited the former chief engineer with designing key projects that continue to serve both irrigation and drinking water needs.
Among the major works attributed to Nawaz Jung are Osman Sagar, Himayat Sagar, Nizam Sagar, Dindi, Koyalsagar, Kadem, Pochampadu, and Lower Manair dams. He was also instrumental in the establishment of Osmania University Arts College, Afzalgunj State Central Library, and Osmania General Hospital.
KTR recalled that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had designated July 11 as Telangana Engineers Day in 2014, in recognition of Nawaz Jung’s contributions. Since then, the day has been commemorated annually.
Extending greetings to engineers across the state, KTR said Nawaz Jung Bahadur remains a symbol of Telangana’s engineering heritage.
