Hyderabad: BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) urged the Telangana government to immediately address the infrastructure shortcomings at JNTU Sircilla Engineering College. Following media reports that students struggled after temporary classrooms were locked, he took swift steps to ensure continuity in academic activities.
KTR intervenes after media reports of locked classrooms
KTR learned that temporary classrooms at the degree college in Vemulawada were locked after the temporary arrangement’s extension expired. Without alternative venues, students were left stranded. He reacted promptly, contacting JNTU Vice Chancellor T. Kishen Kumar Reddy and the Technical Education Commissioner. He asked them to approve permanent building construction immediately and direct the college to resume operations in alternate premises in Agraharam until construction begins.
Commissioner responds, agrees to resolve logistical bottlenecks
The Technical Education Commissioner responded positively, ensuring the pending rent payments to the degree college were processed quickly. He also pledged that the college would function without interruption and that students would face no further challenges during this transition.
Background: stalled construction despite budget allocation
The JNTU Sircilla Engineering College began in 2021 with ₹402 crore allocated for permanent infrastructure. Initial classes had around 360 students; now enrollment has grown to approximately 1,032, with hostel facilities for 700. Despite these gains, construction delays forced classes into temporary degree college spaces. With no extensions granted, institutional operations faced debilitating interruptions.
KTR urges fast-track construction on allocated land
Emphasising the urgent need to safeguard students’ academic progress, KTR said, “Officials must speed up approval and begin construction immediately on the 20-acre site previously allocated in Mandepally.” The Minister added that parents and students deeply appreciate his direct intervention.
