HYDERABAD: A fast-track special court in LB Nagar on Monday convicted a 23-year-old man in a case involving the harassment of a minor girl and sentenced him to three years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of ₹5,000 and directed that ₹1 lakh compensation be provided to the victim.
According to police, the convict, Yasa Sumanth Reddy, son of Narsi Reddy, is a resident of Korivenigudem village, Nalgonda district. He worked as a computer operator at a private college under Saroor Nagar police station limits. Over time, he developed an acquaintance with a minor student and allegedly extorted money from her repeatedly while pressuring her to send inappropriate personal photographs. He also trespassed into her residence and behaved indecently, prompting the registration of a case against him.
A case was booked against him under Sections 354-D (stalking) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with Section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The trial was conducted under Saroor Nagar Station SC No. 176/2020 and was presided over by the Honourable Fast Track Special Judge of Rangareddy District, who pronounced the verdict on March 3, 2025.
The prosecution was represented by Additional Public Prosecutors Smt. Sunitha and D. Raghu, who argued the case. The judgment underscores the importance of legal action against crimes involving minors and highlights the role of fast-track courts in ensuring justice.
