HYDERABAD: A leopard that had been prowling the ICRISAT campus in Patancheru, Sangareddy district, was finally captured by the forest department after a tense two-day search operation.
Workers at the research facility had been gripped with fear since the wild animal was first spotted. Responding swiftly, forest officials installed trap cages and deployed CCTV cameras to monitor the leopard’s movements.
To lure the predator, officials set up baits—two goats—near the traps on Tuesday night. Their strategy paid off when the leopard returned in the night to hunt and was caught in the cage.
Officials confirmed that the captured leopard was safely transported to the zoo park in a specially arranged vehicle. They also stated that there is information suggesting the presence of another leopard in the vicinity, and efforts are underway to trace it.
The successful operation has brought relief to both ICRISAT staff and local residents, who had been living in fear of the wild animal. Forest officials have urged the public to remain cautious and report any further sightings.
