Frequent leopard sightings near Tirupati Vedic University have caused fear among students. Forest officials struggle to capture the elusive animal.
TIRUPATI: The presence of a leopard near Tirupati Vedic University has sparked fear among students and staff. On Saturday night around 1:30 AM, a leopard was spotted near the university hostel, alarming both students and security personnel.
For the past two and a half months, a leopard has been roaming the Vedic University, Sri Venkateswara University (SVU), and surrounding areas, preying on animals and escaping unnoticed. Despite efforts by the Forest Department, including the installation of trap cameras and two cages, the leopard has not been captured.
Students are growing increasingly concerned for their safety, fearing that if the leopard is not captured soon, human lives could be at risk. University staff and administration have also expressed worries over the recurring sightings.
On Saturday night, the leopard spotted near the hostel was reported to be smaller in size. However, according to forest officials, the previously sighted leopard was much larger, leading to speculation that two leopards might be present in the area.
Forest Officials Struggle to Capture the Leopard
Despite deploying various trapping methods, officials have not yet succeeded in capturing the leopard. The elusive nature of the animal has left forest officials puzzled about the best strategy to contain the situation.
University authorities and students are urging the Forest Department to take immediate action to prevent any potential attacks and ensure the safety of those on campus.
