Hyderabad: Lightning strikes killed six people in Telangana on September 10 as thunderstorms lashed various districts. Three people died in Nirmal district and another three in Jogulamba Gadwal district.
In Nirmal’s Pembi mandal, Ellayya, his wife Ellavva, and Bandaru Venkati were walking home from farm work near Gummen Englapur village. A lightning bolt struck them on the way, killing all three instantly.
Lightning strikes kill six amid IMD rain alerts
In Bhumpuram village of Aija mandal, Jogulamba Gadwal, lightning hit five people working in the fields. Parvatamma (22), Sarvesh (20), and Saubhagya (40) died on the spot. The other two suffered serious injuries. Locals took them to the nearest government hospital.
Grieving families and residents in both villages reacted with shock and sorrow. The loss of three lives in each incident cast a shadow over the affected areas.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of more rain across Telangana for the next three days. It also predicted heavy rain in several districts over the next few hours. IMD issued a Yellow Alert for likely rainfall in Jagitial, Jangaon, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Jogulamba Gadwal, Kamareddy, Karimnagar, Khammam, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Medak, Mulugu, Nirmal, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Suryapet, Wanaparthy, Warangal, Hanamkonda, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri.
