Hyderabad: Security personnel at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) found eight rounds of live ammunition in the checked-in baggage of a passenger on August 28. The man, Sukhdeep Singh (32), is a resident of Bhawanigarh, Punjab.
He was booked on Indigo flights 6E-6076 and 6E-5007 from Hyderabad to Amritsar via Delhi. During screening, officials found four 0.2 mm bullets, two 0.7 mm bullets, one 7.52 mm round, and one 7.62 mm round.
Passenger claimed bullets were from 2023 Punjab case
Sukhdeep Singh failed to show any valid arms or ammunition license. He claimed the bullets were left from a 2023 incident in Punjab and said he was unaware they were in his bag. Police are verifying that statement.
Investigators said Sukhdeep Singh had travelled to Nanded by bus on August 22 to visit a Gurudwara. Due to floods in his hometown, he booked a flight from Hyderabad to return home. Security detected the bullets before he could board.
Police took custody of the passenger and seized the ammunition. RGI Airport Police registered a case under FIR No. 797/2025, invoking Section 25(1B)(a) of the Arms Act, 1959.
Authorities urged all passengers to follow aviation safety rules on carrying weapons and ammunition.
