Hyderabad: Driven by loan app debt, a youth from Banjara Hills disguised himself as a woman and burgled his friend’s house after learning the family had travelled out of town.
According to police, Shivraj of Uday Nagar in Banjara Hills left for Nizamabad with his family on September 16 to attend a function. He had informed his close friend Harshit about the trip.
Police said Harshit, already under financial stress and struggling with digital loan repayments, saw this as an opportunity. He entered Shivraj’s home dressed in female attire and made off with 6.75 tolas of gold jewellery and ₹1.10 lakh in cash.
Police trace stolen gold and cash using CCTV evidence
Upon returning home, Shivraj and his family discovered the theft and immediately lodged a complaint with the Banjara Hills police.
Investigators collected CCTV footage from the area and matched it with other evidence. They identified Harshit as the suspect and arrested him.
During the arrest, police recovered 6.75 tolas of gold and ₹85,000 in cash from his possession. They are still investigating the whereabouts of the remaining amount. Harshit has been remanded to judicial custody.
