Hyderabad: The Telangana government plans to release the local body poll schedule on September 26 or 27, just before the Dasara festival. Officials confirmed that the notification could follow any time after the festival, as election preparations have intensified.
The government will inform the State Election Commission (SEC) of its readiness to conduct the polls. A formal letter is expected to be sent today or tomorrow, along with the finalized reservation details.
In addition, a Government Order (GO) on Backward Class (BC) reservations is likely by Thursday night or Friday morning. Authorities aim to release both the GO and the poll schedule at the same time to maintain procedural clarity.
BC quota GO nears approval
The state is moving ahead with a new GO that grants 42% reservation to BCs in local bodies, even though a similar bill remains pending with the President of India. Secretaries from the Law and Welfare Departments have already reviewed the draft. It now awaits final clearance from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
Officials believe that launching the election process early will reduce the chances of court interference. By releasing the schedule before September 26, the government plans to show the High Court that it has acted on the directive to complete elections by September 30.
Training for polling staff begins
To ensure smooth execution, the SEC has asked all district collectors to appoint polling officers (POs). Training sessions for these officials are scheduled division-wise on September 26 and 27.
