Hyderabad: The inflows into Lower Manair Dam (LMD) in Karimnagar spiked on Thursday after two straight days of heavy rainfall across the region. Discharge from Moyathummeda stream and Mid Manair reservoir steadily raised water levels in the dam.
Officials said inflows increased hour by hour. The LMD, which has a total storage capacity of 24 tmcft, currently holds 15 tmcft. It had surged from under 10 tmcft within just a day. If this trend continues, authorities may release water from the LMD gates into the Manair river by Friday evening.
Lower Manair Dam inflows raise flood risk in downstream areas
Irrigation officials reported over 27,000 cusecs entering from Moyathummeda and 45,000 cusecs from Mid Manair. They advised residents and farmers in downstream areas to remain alert for any sudden changes in water levels.
Meanwhile, Kakatiya University postponed its scheduled exams due to the ongoing rain alert in the region.
