HYDERABAD: Former Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy strongly criticized Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing him of failing to uphold election promises. He particularly targeted the government’s stance on the Layout Regularization Scheme (LRS), highlighting inconsistencies in its policies.
Prashanth Reddy alleged that while the Congress party opposed the LRS when introduced by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), it has now taken a different approach after coming to power. He accused the government of using the scheme to financially burden the public and questioned its shift in stance.
He further claimed that during the elections, Congress had promised complete free regularization for the poor under LRS. However, instead of full relief, the government has now offered only a 25% concession, which he termed as misleading. He accused CM Revanth Reddy of attempting to increase state revenue at the cost of public interest and demanded that the government fulfill its original promise.
In response to the criticism, the Telangana state cabinet recently announced a 25% concession in LRS charges, applicable until March 31. This concession will benefit individual plot purchasers, including those who have bought plots but have not registered them yet. The scheme also includes provisions for regularizing unsold plots within layouts. If 10% of plots in a layout are registered, the remaining 90% will be eligible for regularization. Additionally, purchasers with sale deed registrations can avail of the 25% concession if they complete the LRS process before the deadline.
The debate over LRS continues to be a significant political issue in Telangana, with opposition leaders questioning the government’s commitment to its electoral promises.
