HYDERABAD: In a bold move, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud has called upon leaders of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to collaborate with the Congress in advocating for a nationwide caste census. This initiative aims to gather detailed demographic data to facilitate equitable distribution of resources and reservations.
Speaking in the Telangana Legislative Council, Goud expressed satisfaction over the introduction of the Backward Classes (BC) Reservations Enhancement Bill, which proposes increasing BC reservations to 42% in the state. He hailed this legislative move as a testament to the Congress party’s commitment to social justice.
Goud challenged the sincerity of BRS and BJP leaders regarding their support for BC communities. He urged them to join the Congress in pressing the central government to conduct a nationwide caste census. He emphasized that without comprehensive data, formulating effective policies for marginalized communities remains challenging.
Highlighting the significance of the BC Reservations Bill, Goud asserted that its passage demonstrates the Congress party’s dedication to uplifting marginalized sections. He called on BRS and BJP leaders to support this historic bill, cautioning that failure to do so would not be forgiven by the BC communities.
Goud also addressed the BJP directly, urging the party to back the BC Reservations Bill at the central level. He emphasized that genuine commitment to social justice requires concrete actions, not just rhetoric.
In conclusion, Goud reiterated the Congress party’s commitment to social justice, citing the introduction of the 42% BC Reservations Enhancement Bill and the Scheduled Castes categorization bill as evidence. He called on the central government to initiate a nationwide caste census promptly and challenged the BJP to support the enhancement of BC reservations. He also urged the BRS to exert pressure on the central government to pass the BC Reservations Bill.
