Hyderabad: Telangana Congress on Friday asserted full credit for the BC reservations ordinance, with PCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud describing the 42% quota move in local body elections as historic and rooted in the vision of AICC leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.
Speaking at Gandhi Bhavan, Goud said the Congress had reaffirmed its commitment to social justice and would not enter local polls without implementing the reservation. He called it a golden opportunity for BCs and urged them to take full advantage.
He criticised previous administrations for slashing BC quotas to 21%, accusing them of pretending to champion the cause now. “Leaders who weakened BC representation should introspect instead of claiming success today,” he said.
Goud directly attacked BRS and MLC Kavitha, questioning their association with the ordinance. “What does Kavitha have to do with BC reservations?” he asked, accusing her of opportunism. “Who is Kavitha to claim credit for Congress legislation?”
He mocked her recent activism, calling it politically convenient. “She’s singing the BC tune now, but where was she during ten years of her party’s rule?” Goud asked. “Not once did she raise her voice then.”
The PCC chief reiterated that the 42% quota was part of Congress’s election promise and was realised only due to the agenda of Rahul Gandhi and the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. “Neither BRS nor BJP played any role in this,” he said.
